Moundsville Honors City's Only Officer Killed In Line Of Duty
Posted 07/23/20The only Moundsville police officer to be killed in the line of duty is now being honored.
Chief J.P. Thatcher was killed while trying to make an arrest in 1886.
Moundsville City Council recently voted to name the section of 7th Street between Lafayette Court Avenue for Thatcher.
A sign has been placed on that corner, right in front of the courthouse.
City Manager Rick Healy said it's important to honor Thatcher's life and service.
